Holy Island Beamish

Resort - Newcastle

Overview

Our tour is based in the Newcastle-Gateshead City Region, a fascinating metropolis spectacularly situated on the Tyne. Six bridges span the Tyne as it flows through the city - for centuries a coal port and shipbuilding centre. The elegant 19th century town centre of Newcastle is in classical style. Alleys slope down from the 12th century castle keep and its back gate to the Quayside, where there are timber-framed houses of 16th and 17th century merchants. Landmarks include the cathedral's 15th century 'crown' spire, on top of flying buttresses, and the 133ft monument to Earl Grey who was prime minister in 1830-4.

Ride on the tramway which links the towns and villages and explore the many traditional shops from showing life through the 1900’s. It’s a great day out for all.
