Torquay is one of Britain's most famous resorts, situated at the heart of 22 miles of unspoilt coastline known as the 'English Riviera' because of its mild climate, sparkling blue waters, blue-flag beaches, attractive gardens and palm tree lined seafront. Torquay has been fashionable since Victorian times and is the former home of Elizabeth Barrett Browning as well as crime author Agatha Christie. It offers variety, day and night, from its bustling harbour and marina to its exclusive shops, sophisticated restaurants and bars. Torquay's spectacular modernised waterfront provides a continental atmosphere with its attractive cafes and shops, luxury yachts and beautiful footbridge across the inner harbour.
The heart of the town is the harbour which has many shops along its edges. The Metropole Hotel is situated a short uphill walk from the harbour side. The town features a variety of shops, bars, cafes and a wealth of attractions. A variety of boat trips is available in high season.
Torbay has excellent bathing beaches at Babbacombe, Torre Abbey and Paignton. Torre Abbey Gardens make a pleasant walk along the seafront from the hotel.
We pride ourselves on delivering consistently high standards throughout our hotels: clean rooms, good quality décor, bright modern bathrooms and attention to the small details that make all the difference to your stay. Many guest rooms boast fabulous sea views, and all are immaculately presented and provided with an en suite bath or shower & WC, central heating, hair dryer, tea/coffee making facilities and television with radio channels. Most also have internal telephones to take incoming calls, contact Reception or call other rooms.
